In the last financial period the organization was successfully awarded funding from the Department of Health and Ageing for an additional 20 volunteers to provide support to aged care facility residents living within the Northern Metropolitan Region. As a result, this has increased the total number of residents to 77 and has significantly enhanced the program’s capacity to meet the growth in demand for culturally and linguistically appropriate volunteer support.
With the continued commitment of program coordination staff and the relentless dedication of our volunteer visitors, the program is successful in its aim of providing friendship and companionship to individuals living within aged care facilities, thus significantly enhancing their quality of life. This continues to occur within the context of an ‘ageing in place’ framework and in a manner that addresses culture, language, spirituality and lifestyle.
